Why so much carbon forming when I solder stained glass

by YOLANDA
(MONTREAL)

Q: I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH TOO MUCH CARBON FORMING ON THE TIP OF MY IRON WHEN i SOLDER AND IT KEEPS FROM MAKING A NICE CLEAN SEAM. HOW CAN i AVOID SO MUCH CARBON TO IMPROVE MY WORK?

A: The best way to get a smooth solder without carbon:

1. feed the solder to the as you are laying it on the copper foil.

2. move slowly with the solder and the solder iron to get an even flow.

3. you may need to clean off your solder iron tip with a damp sponge.
