Q:What do I need to teach stained glass?? Are there liablity issues I have to consider?? Also I don't have a shop where could I do it??
A:
Preface: This is a very general question that can entail a web of information needed depending on goals, location, marketing, pricing, selling, systems, etc. We'll provide a brief answer and please add your own tips below.
Teaching stained glass can be alot of fun.
If you have the knowledge to make stained glass then you are able to guide someone through teaching.
You would need all the tools and the glass.
Most places that we have found that teach stained glass have a store to sell the glass and the tools and the patterns, etc.
They have extra tools, like a grinder, so that several people can work at the same time.
In any business you would need to have at least some type of insurance- just in case anyone go hurt. Check out the site section on stained glass business. That section provides all types of information to
help you start a business.
Finally, about a a location. You could set up a studio in your basement or you could set up in a shed.
The location is not the real issue because you can set up a shop anywhere that you have some space. You will need plenty space for work tables and tools. You will need to make sure your work area is safe with ventilation and glasses and clean up supplies.
My wife and I saw a shop in a small town - it looked like a tiny home. When we walked in the "living room" was set up with stained glass designs already produced and for sale.
When we walked in another area - it was set up with a large table in the center and work areas all around the perimeter of the room. This was the class area.
Pick a location that is comfortable to you.
