Stained Glass Craft Projects for Children
Doing a stained glass craft with your kids is a perfect way for them
to be involved and for you to come up with interesting free stained glass patterns to turn into
glass art pieces.
Children of all ages love to draw, create and have fun. They also like
to
be just like mommy and daddy and do the things they do.
Below are a few projects that are great for you parents to do with
your
children, maybe on that crummy weather day.
Children love to make projects for the refrigerator but working with
glass
can be dangerous for small children- so these projects offer an
alternative
that resemble stained glass but are safer and just as fun.
Plus, remember if you are stumped on putting a great pattern together,
a stained glass craft with the little ones is a wonderful brainstorming
technique!
STAR STAINED GLASS CRAFT:
Items needed:
1. Construction paper
2. Tissue
3. Glue
Make a design- any design that you can cut out and leave open holes.
The
example we are showing is a star.
Your children can trace a picture onto the construction paper.
If they
are
too small then you should use the scissors to cut out the pattern and
holes
in the center.
Take a piece of colored tissue (it can be smooth or krinkled, glittery
or
with a design on it) and glue it to the back of the cut out pattern.
You can cut out the pattern to remove the excess tissue paper around
the
edges of the design.
Attach your design to a window so you can see the light shine thru the
pattern.

HEART STAINED GLASS CRAFT:
Items needed:
1. Construction paper
2. Wax paper
3.Crayons
4.Scotch tape or glue
Cut out a pattern on the construction paper (our design is a heart)
Take a piece of wax paper- trace the heart design on the wax paper.
Color
anyway you want, keeping within the design lines. Most children will
have a
scribbled design or they could make a picture of whatever they want.
It's
time for them to be creative.
Attach the colored piece of wax paper to the back of the cut out
pattern of
construction paper. Attach with either glue or scotch tape.
Hang your finished project to a window, bulletin board or the famous
refrigerator.

FISH STAINED GLASS CRAFT:
Items needed:
1. Construction paper
2. Glue/scotch tape
3. Wax paper
4. Crayons
5. Some to shave the crayons (knife works well)
6. Iron
Take a large piece of construction paper and fold it in half, or you
can
use 2 pieces of paper.
Cut out a design thru both pieces of construction paper. ( Our design
is a
fish).
Take wax paper and trace the design on the wax paper.
Shave crayon pieces inside the design on the wax paper. You can put as
much
or as little crayon shaving as you want.
Once you have the amount of crayon shavings - apply a piece of wax
paper
over the top of the crayon shaving.
Take a heated iron on the wax paper to melt the crayon shavings. Remove
the
top wax paper to see the design formed.
Put the melted crayon design in between the construction paper.
Attach with scotch tape or glue.
Hang your new picture to a window to see the "stained glass" image-
produced with crayons.

TREE STAINED GLASS CRAFT:
We thought we would share a design that my son made for us over 20
years
ago. We still hang it in the window during the Christmas Holiday. It is
fun
to think of all the hard work he put into this to make mommy and daddy
happy and we have treasured it all these years.
It's a piece of construction paper cut out into the shape of a tree. He
cut
out pieces of tissue and attached them to the front of the tree to
represent ornaments.
Have fun with your children- they grow up so fast and its good to have
these fond memories while doing things together.
