Making my own patterns

by Heather Gray
(Stirling, Canada)

I would like to be able to design my own patterns, particularly from photographs as this is another hobby I enjoy.

Is there a software program that will convert a photograph into a line drawing?

Also, I have found an interesting stain glass pattern software program that would allow me to create my own patterns but I am not sure where I should be putting the lines to ensure strong construction.

Can you recommend a reading source that could help me with this issue?

I am not in a large urban centre and obtaining desirable patterns is my biggest challenge. I enjoy detailed, although not necessarily large, stain glass pieces and would most like to try to create my own.

I look forward to hearing your reply! And thank you!

Glass Eye by Dragonfly software allows you to import images in various formats to use as a drawing template. You can crop the imported image and change its proportions in Glass Eye. And Glass Eye provides a very extensive palette of actual stained glass images that you can plug in to the discrete sectors of your drawing. Both the drawing and the stained glass images in the various sectors can be modified/changed at will any number of times. The drawing can be scaled/reproportioned to any size you desire. You can print out your design at production scale as a line drawing (twice) to obtain a layout and a cut-up (requires taping together trimmed 8-1/2 X 11 printer paper). The entire design in color can also be printed out on a single sheet for reference. Go to our front page at www.light-romance.on.ca and scroll down to the Glass Eye logo, which links you to more info. Have fun!
