How to solder without the glass cracking from heat

by Milo
(USA)

Q: How do I solder without the glass cracking from the heat?

Before we answer, we have a great DVD tutorial that will help with this step of the process - get your hands on the stained glass solder video and save yourself a ton of time!

A: The first thing you need to do is to lower the temperature on your soldering iron. It is too high.

2nd- The solder is suppose to melt down between the glass pieces- make sure you don't tough the solder iron to the glass.

When applying the solder- touch the solder to the iron over the seam and let it flow into the seam.

You might want to check out a temperature control element to help you control your soldering iron.

Keep your soldering iron clean, before, during and after soldering.

Also we recommend that you don't keep the soldering iron on all the time or for a long time- this may affect the heating elements in the iron.
