A quick question please answer

Please clarify, does the copper fit BETWEEN the pieces of glass or ride on top of the glass? If it fits between I am not sure how the small weights are used - would they be used similar to using horse shoe nails in leading glass?
#2 Is the copper invisible after soldering?
