How to Cut Long This Glass Pieces

Q:How do I cut long thin pieces like grass blades?

A: Hello and welcome. It sounds like you are working on a very interesting project. We would love to see this design in the stained glass making section once you have it finished.

Producing small pieces of glass can be a real challenge not only scoring and breaking but also foiling.

We have a couple ideas that may be of help to you:

1. Cut your piece a little larger than the pattern - then use your stained glass grinder or cutting shears to help with the size piece that you need.

Remember if you go too small then the entire piece will be nothing but copper foil and solder- so we don't recommend going too small. Combine blades of grass.

This process is very difficult because the tips have a tendency to break off as you are trying to break the glass.

2.Use a piece of wood several inches long by about 1" thick - nail it to your work bench. Tool to use would be wheel turret ( good for cutting strips and circles).

Dab the cutting wheel with cutting oil. Lay the glass edge along the wood strip, then apply pressure, with one hand to the cutter and the other hand to the wood strip- pull the glass through the stained glass cutter tool.
