How best to build a window using both foil and lead techniques?

Q: The outside border is all lead, the inside design foil.

If I build the window out from the leaded corner, the foil pieces don't lay flat.

Best to do separately and attach later, or use a piece of flat clear glass to raise the foiled pattern up?
