Help with stained glass project

Q:I am trying to do a project with pieces that do not connect completely, with gaps between them.
What should I use for those edges that are exposed in the middle of the panel?
If I use copper foil alone, I am afraid it will peel off. I attach a picture of something similar found on line to what I want to do.
Also, in the picture, what material do you think are in the lines that stand alone, that represent the ropes of the ship? Thank you!
A: This sailboat is quite beautiful and it has a lot of detail.
You stated that there are sections where the pieces to not connect. There are 2 ways that you can do this:
1. You could use clear glass in the "open" areas so they look open or see thru. Then you will also have the solder lines to represent the ropes. This will add strength to the design w/out any issues.
2. You could leave them open- finish the edges with copper foil then solder the edges.
As for support- you may need to add wiring on the back side for more support based upon the size of the boat.
As for the items that represent the ropes- you could use either solder lines or copper wire. It might be a good idea to do a patina or paint the wire or solder lines with a fine brush to give the look of rope.
