Blowing in the Wind are Amazing Glass Chimes...
Listen to them Make Beautiful Music

The glass chimes project is an important one for us.

Randy and Kim love chimes to blow in the wind. The fun part is you can produce any type of design you want.

You can put any type of chime to make whatever sound you like. We have seen anything from metal tubing to wood, to ceramic tiles in different shapes, to pieces of glass.

We like the sound of the metal tubing and the glass because it shines in the sun making a rainbow. The design shape that is very popular is a circular image.

For the glass chimes project you will need:

    1. A design or pattern

    2. Glass (of course)

    3. Flux

    4. Solder

    5. Copper foil

    6. Black patina (option)

    7. Chain

    8. Wax to protect the glass and patina outside. Randy also just recently saw that you could use a round brush , attach it your drill to make lead came or foil shine.

    9. Something that will make the sound- some type of “chime” , either 5 or 7 in quantity.

Steps to making glass chimes:

**Produce the stained glass design you want, circular image would really work good for this wind chime. Such as a bird, my wife’s favorite would be a hummingbird.

If you need help with the copper foil method – check out our website createstainedglass.com, click on the how to begin section, then click on the copper foil method.

**Randy would recommend taking your time but put the solder around the outside edges , then put a black or gold patina along the solder to give a finished look. Putting the solder around the edges is not an easy process.

So we recommend practicing first. Do a little at a time, not to put too much solder so it looks clumped. Again, take your time applying the solder to the edges and the front and back of all the seams.

**Make or purchase a hook for the top of the stained glass (you can attach by soldering to the top edge). Then attach a chain- the length you desire. (You can make a hook by taking the copper wire , bending it and soldering it to one of the seams on the front and back)

**Using fishing line- attach the chimes to the wire- you could do different lengths so the chimes hang at different levels or you could make them all the same length.

**To attach them to the bottom of the stained glass. Make or purchase 5-7 small hooks and do the same process as listed above.

**When the chimes hang loose without any wind you don’t want the chimes to touch. Chose the number of hooks based on the size of the stained glass.

**Now you are finished with your project. Hang it out in the wind and listen to the beautiful sound or see how the sun shines thru the glass.

Glass chimes are a great project for your yard or patio. Plus when you hear them make sweet music, you'll remember the work and effort you put into creating something so beautiful.

Glass chimes offer a great stained glass project
