Here are our favorite spots for finding free stained glass patterns...

  • The library is an amazing resource for finding stained glass designs (if you have a good library). Check out all the stained glass books you can find. We even blow up the patterns on a copy machine and put them in a pattern notebook we created to have them for future use.

If your library is short on stained glass making books, try craft books to expand your horizons. There is a gold mine at the library and it costs you nothing!

  • The Internet. You can find anything regarding anything on the Internet. Unfortunately it takes some searching to do so. Some websites offer one or two free stained glass patterns or ideas but not a slew.

The places we search include, Google, eBay, forums (in fact I found a free e-book the other day using forums), groups, and more. There are plenty of other enthusiasts out there to help and provide support.

As an example, if you go to any search engine and type in "free stained glass patterns" or any combination of words that relate (be specific), you will find more patterns and designs than you'll know what to do with.

For some Internet sources you may pay a small amount, but it isn't anything more than a fast food meal.

  • Next are coloring books. These are inexpensive and have all been outlined to teach a child how to color in the lines. These provide fun and great images to create. We use these quite often and if you don't have any laying around, they will not cost you a fortune.

  • Create your own free stained glass patterns. Just take a look around you. There are all kinds of shapes and sizes, circles and squares to make beautiful stained glass patterns.

Use nature, such as a leaf, several pieces of fruit, a butterfly, a flower, or a star. How do you visualize the mountains or the sun or a forest oftrees in the winter. BE CREATIVE!

  • Ask others. If you take stained glass classes or know other artists, ask them about their designs and patterns.

  • Also, one of the best ways to create your own pattern is through pictures. Take photos of images you love - zoom in on a flower or any of your favorite images you'd like to see turned into a work of art.
