Attaching a Blob of solder to glass

by C Hollowell
(USA)

Q: I am trying to attach a blob of solder to the front of a suncatcher for eyes.

I have tried using copper foil but It doesn't want to stick. Is there a trick? Can you help?

A: Any time to put a blob of solder on glass it will not stick, you need the copper foil and the flux to get the solder to adhere.

The best way to get an eye is to have the eye in between the pieces of glass so you can use the copper foil and flux- then when you solder for the eye it will stay.

If you have already made the design, which is what it sounds like- another method to get an eye is to find a round piece of glass "ball shape" that you could glue on the glass to "make" the eyes.

We'd love to see the finished design with a little back story on how it was made.

We'd feature it in our stained glass making section!
